In addition to bringing much needed public awareness for healthy adults to join the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network, the Katelyn Bedard Bone Marrow Association is also starting a pilot project to bring much needed financial support to families of patients who are recipients of a bone marrow transplant.
For the families of patients undergoing bone marrow/stem cell transplantation, financial issues are sometimes a major source of concern.
As a newly-founded non-profit organization, the Katelyn Bedard Bone Marrow Association is currently able to provide limited financial support for families of patients in need of a bone marrow transplant and are referred from Windsor Regional Hospital, Windsor, Ontario and the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. The patients who use this facility for pediatric blood-related illnesses are located all across southwestern Ontario.
If you, or someone you know, is currently a patient at Windsor Regional Hospital or Children's Hospital of Western Ontario and is a potential recipient of a bone marrow transplant, peripheral blood stem cell transplant (autologous or allogeneic) or cord blood transplant, please have the patient's family or caregiver contact their hospital social worker for more information regarding the Katelyn Bedard Bone Marrow Association Bone Marrow Transplant Family Support Program. You can also request an application form by contacting us at info@givemarrow.net
The ultimate goal of the Association is to make the Bone Marrow Transplant Family Support Program available to deserving families in other parts of Ontario and eventually across Canada.
The reason we started this program is because when someone needs a bone marrow transplant, both he or she and their caregiver (spouse, parent etc.) need to take time off work for many months. Since there are only a handful of transplant centers, this usually means living on the road for the duration. Not only is there no money coming in during this time, but they are faced with increased travel costs, meal costs, parking etc. The stress of this is on top of the stress they are already feeling from dealing with a devastating illness. We hope to raise money that can be used to help these families.
The Katelyn Bedard Bone Marrow Association is funded exclusively by donations. If you would like to make a donation and help us assist families dealing with a bone marrow transplant, please send it to:
